Your Oz Explorer

Australia’s third largest island, only 70 miles south west of Adelaide, combines dramatic coastal scenery, secluded pristine beaches and an abundance of native wildlife. The Flinders Chase and other national parks cover much of the island.

Look out for kangaroos and wallabies, echidnas, goannas and koalas. In the waters surrounding the island are little penguins, sea-lions and fur seals. You may also see the shy platypus, one of nature’s more unusual mammals. This destination is a must for those wanting to see Australia’s unique fauna and birdlife.

Day 1:

Your Oz Explorer includes an early morning pick up from your hotel for a scenic coach journey to Cape Jervis taking in the picturesque Fleurieu Peninsula with its vineyards, coastal views and rolling hills. Following the 45 minute crossing to Penneshaw from Cape Jervis you will arrive onto beautiful Kangaroo Island.

Your tour starts with a stop at Clifford’s Honey Farm to enjoy an informative talk by the beekeeper followed by tastings and an opportunity to sample homemade honey ice-cream and honey beauty products. Then travel onto Vivonne Bay Bistro located on a 260 hectare bush property, for a delicious two course lunch.

After lunch you continue onto Seal Bay Conservation Park for a guided beach walk with a National Park Ranger amongst a breeding colony of wild and rare Australian sea-lions. Your tour will then visit another amazing wildlife attraction, the fascinating Birds of Prey free-flight demonstration, an interactive and educational display of native Australian birds.

From here you will travel to Kingscote to watch the pelican feeding, before being transferred to your choice of overnight accommodation at the Aurora Ozone Hotel.

Day 2:

Your second day of touring begins at Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery. After testing and tasting the eucalyptus products, travel to the centre of the Island to the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park where you can feed kangaroos, have your photograph taken with a koala, and enjoy a guided tour of the park.

Next, travel to Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary to look for Koalas nestled up in the eucalypts, and then travel to the western most part of the Island, Flinders Chase National Park, where you will enjoy a scrumptious two course lunch at Kangaroo Island Wilderness Retreat.

After lunch and a short stop at the Flinders Chase Visitor Centre, travel through the park and learn about its unique trees and plants. See the rugged southern coastline, and enjoy a walk around Remarkable Rocks, providing spectacular photographic opportunities, before continuing on to Admirals Arch, where the boardwalk takes you down a rugged cliff face to reveal this spectacular arch, a natural nursery and safe haven for playful New Zealand fur seals that can be seen swimming and playing in the waves, or resting on the rocks. There is a possibility you will see more wildlife on your journey back to Penneshaw, where you will join the ferry and coach for your return transfer to Adelaide.
