Day 1: Darwin - Kakadu

Depart Darwin and travel through pristine wetland regions to Kakadu National Park, a 20,000 square kilometre suite of landscapes varying from red-hued escarpments that shelter historic Aboriginal rock art dating back thousands of years to floodplains teeming with wildlife. Visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre, then join your local guide on an award-winning cruise to experience the dramatic scenery of the Yellow Water Billabong. Keep an eye out for saltwater crocodiles, a diverse array of smaller wildlife, and the colourful range of birdlife for which this region is renowned.

Day 2: Kakadu - Darwin

This morning, head off with your Driver Guide to explore the World Heritage area of Ubirr, where you’ll explore extensive Aboriginal rock art galleries believed to be 20,000 years old, and considered among the best in the world. Climb to the lookout for stunning views over the floodplains, woodlands and dark ribbons of rainforest of the surrounding Nadab wetlands. Then take the Guluyambi Cultural Cruise along the East Alligator River, where an Aboriginal guide will provide insights into their culture, including local mythology, the river’s abundant food chain, as well as bush survival skills. With special permission of the local people, you are able to go ashore in Arnhem Land. Visit Bowali Visitor Centre, which houses a wealth of information on the Park's ecology and Aboriginal culture. Finally, you’ll return to Darwin, where your Short Break concludes.
