Top Activities to Do on Rottnest Island

Travel to Australia just became a lot easier for UK based travellers. Australian national carrier Qantas Airlines will begin direct service from London Heathrow to Perth on 25 March 2018. It is the first direct passenger service from the UK to Australia.

Rottnest Island

This service will open the door for travellers to explore the protected nature reserve that is Rottnest Island in Western Australia. Just a 25-minute ferry ride from Fremantle port, the island is famous for its white sand beaches and the quokka, which has been proclaimed as the happiest animal on the planet! The adorable creatures are the main inhabitants of the island and can be found anywhere.

One of the main landmarks on the island is the Bathurst lighthouse. It is one of two lighthouses on the small island and has stood since 1900 at Bathurst point. The reason that Bathurst lighthouse is a must-see for visitors is mainly due to its prime location. The lighthouse sits aside Pinky beach, one of the many beaches with that smooth white sand. Visitors to the beach have a great opportunity to snorkel in pristine blue waters that give you the best viewing experience. The beach offers snorkelling gear to rent, but feel free to bring your own too!

Where to Eat?

Of course, no trip anywhere would be complete without delicious food. While the island only is 19 km from top to bottom, there are a variety of cuisines on offer for all traveller to enjoy. Ask the local and they will say no trip to the island is complete without a stop at the Rottnest Bakery. The island staple fresh baked bread, organic meat pies, and cream filled donuts. Coffee, cold drinks for the beach and gelati are served as well.

For a traditional dining experience, you must head to Thomsons. Intentionally located on Thomson Bay, the restaurant can meet the needs of any traveller. They have a wide amount of selections for children as well. If you are with children, you will certainly head over to Just4Fun Aqua Park. The park has a series of inflatables that make up for an entire course of activities. Water trampolines, slides, and volleyball are just some of the many activities that you can do at the aqua park. If you plan to go, make sure to check their website/social media as the park will occasionally close due to weather.
